The Band:

Seattle, 2001

In January 2001, Kelly started jammin in his living room through headphones, sometimes with James Strother and sometimes with Tony Smullin. By June, Tony split, saying that he didn't have time anymore and then in August 2001, Kelly split too, moving down south of Olympia to Rochester and worked for a while at The Lucky Eagle Casino. All the while, still thinking about those nights, playin with the headphones on. In November 2001, Kelly moved back to Seattle. He wrote a song, In My Day, that very first day. He talked Tony into coming down again, now on Sunday afternoons. One day in March 2002, Tony said that it would be “kinda fun” to have a real drummer sometimes, so they brought in John Regis to play drums. They loaded everything up and moved over to Johns house and started playing twice a week. In May 2002, Tony didn't like the vibe there and split again. They wandered on. Jeff L'Heureux, of Culprit fame, came in April 2002 and left in July of 2002. He left behind the words written for Should I Give In To You and also some words to a song that he and Kelly had been writing a little at a time for several years, The Spirit Song. In June 2002, Ben Scribner joined the band on lead guitar. In September 2002, they played their first show together, without Ben, who was in Europe and without vocals, at The Empire Nightclub in Bremerton, Washington, for The Original Smitty's Tattoo Show and then again, with Ben at Dan's Garage in Woodinville, for an after Halloween, Halloween Party as Power Love Station. In November Kelly scored a house with a basement that could be dedicated to music. They all moved over and set up there. In December 2002, Ben left the band, wanting to move on to Los Angeles and become a studio musician. They had begun searching for a singer when James Tegroen, who was the first one to answer the ad and audition showed up. He worked out with Kelly a few times. His audition was at a 2002/2003 New Years Eve Party at Kelly and Tricia's house. After that it was obvious that they had found what they were looking for. They interviewed several other candidates and jammed with one guy a few times just to be sure, but they knew all along they were wasting their time. In February 2003, not surprisingly to anyone John left the band and they brought in Carl "Capt. Carl" Nyman to play drums. Carl an old family friend "hadn't been doin much musically lately" and was itching to play again. He was the perfect person to fill the spot. They quickly taught Carl the first four songs that they were going to record and went into the studio, Sound Media Productions, within the first four weeks that Carl was in the band and thus began the odyssey that would become Brick Pig. By April 2003 they had thrown together a 45 minute set and played their first show together, again appearing as Power Love Station at Big Daddy's Place in Woodinville. They recorded a live cd at that show. In September, 2003 they played, now as Izzy Cain, at About The Music, with Charlie Marinkovich on Lead Guitar and then again in November, 2003, The Ballard Firehouse, with Darrell Vernon on Lead Guitar, before large crowds as part of Sugarlight Productions Battle of the Bands promotion. The Demo Release Party for Brick Pig was December 12th, 2003 at The Lakepointe Bar and Grill in Kenmore, WA. with Stolen Ogre headlinging. Good friends Charlie Marinkovich, Lead Guitar and Chris Goodsell, B3 organ and piano helped out on the recording of Brick Pig respectively. Mark Williams played bass for the first shows starting at The Empire Nightclub and finally at the Demo Release Party as well as appearing on the Brick Pig demo tracks. Darrell Vernon played Lead Guitar and Chris Goodsell, played Keyboards at The Brick Pig Demo Cd Release Party.

In January 2004, bassist Mark Williams left the band and with James having gone boating with the Navy in Greece until June 2006, Carl and Kelly began jamming with bassist Derek Peace formerly of Dr. Unknown and Heir Apparent. Sometimes with Charlie and Chris, sometimes just one or the other and mostly just by themselves. They jammed and made several pre-production tapes of their jams. The new material they were playing was much more dynamic and free flowing.

They got the opportunity of a lifetime, playing two shows at The 2005 Lake Chelan Motorcycle Rally, opening Saturday night for the Classic Rock Icon, Iron Butterfly. Johnny Volume helped out on vocals and rhythm guitar for the Chelan Rally shows. As is the way of the world, Izzy Cain is continuing to evolve. Sadly, Derek was no longer able to be involved in the development of the band, though the mark he's left is undeniable.

Compared favorably to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, an alternative sounding Iron Butterfly and/or Godsmack, Alice In Chains or Tool with keyboards, Brick Pig has been sent to give you the ride of your lifetime. Where it will lead, noone knows. Best to just hang on for dear life. Brick Pig is the vehicle to get your nose in the wind and run down the highway. Running like a scalded dog.

Brick Pig was co-produced by Izzy Cain and Brandon Busch.

In loving memory of Edward J. "Arkie Ed" LaFerney.
